BWC stands for "Biological Weapons Convention".

It is also called as Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention (BTWC), this organization works on banning biological and toxic weaponry by the use of many means. The body works towards finding and taking measures to prevent the making of such weaponry, and if found it works towards abolishing the project.

The organization has marked its name in becoming a well-known body that follows strict procedures. The preamble presented by BWC states that “repugnant to the conscience of mankind”. According to this, if weaponry found which by any means is related to being originated by the toxic process to be used in the field of war is prohibited.

Tracing back the history, it all started from the year 1925 that prohibited the use of biological as well as chemical weapons. Later on, chemical weaponry was disbarred from the treaty, but the biological weaponry held the position. Over the past few years, the treatment has been renewed with new advancements. With the comprising of the ten articles together, the treatment was finalized, where the first article itself suggests that the use of biological and chemical weaponry is strictly prohibited.
