ONGC stands for "Oil and Natural Gas Corporation"

ONGC represents Oil and Natural Gas Corporation. It is an Indian global organization that is perhaps the biggest maker of oil and petroleum gas in India. Its central command is in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.

ONGC is a public area undertaking which is represented by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It produces around 70% of the all-out raw petroleum delivered in India and around 60% of the all-out flammable gas created in India.

Brief History of ONGC

In 1948, after India achieved autonomy, the public authority of India understood the significance of oil and gas for the development of Indian ventures so it wanted to build up the hydrocarbon business.

In 1955, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Scientific Research, an Oil and Natural Gas Directorate was set up to build up the oil and flammable gas assets in the nation.

In 1956, the Indian Parliament received the Industrial Policy Resolution and recorded the oil and gas industry among the Schedule 'A' ventures. The oil and Natural Gas Directorate was additionally moved up to the Oil and Natural Gas Commission.

In February 1994, ONGC was re-coordinated as a restricted organization under the Company's Act, 1956. It turned into a public area undertaking and its name was changed to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

In 1999, ONGC and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) consented to get each other's stock to extend their business at homegrown and worldwide level.

In the year 2002-03, ONGC set up ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL) as its auxiliary to enter the worldwide market.

In 2010, ONGC got the "Maharatna" status, a "Maharatna" PSU.
