Brief History
William Barclay Peat (the P in KPMG) began his vocation in bookkeeping working for Robert Fletcher and Co. His work was appreciated and he was immediately elevated to higher positions. In 1891, he renamed the firm "William Barclay Peat and Co".
In 1897, James Marwick (the M in KPMG) and Roger Mitchell framed the firm Marwick, Mitchell, and Co.
In 1917, Piet Klynveld (the K in KPMG) began a bookkeeping firm in Amsterdam. Jaap Kraayenhof joined the firm and the firm became Klynveld Kraayenhof and Co. (KKC).
In 1953, Reinhard Goerdeler (the G in KPMG) joined Deutsche Treuhand-Gesellschaft (DTG).
In 1911, William Barclay Peat and Co. what's more, Marwick Mitchell and Co united to shape Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co, an organization of bookkeeping and counseling firms.
In 1978, Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co were renamed Peat Marwick International (PMI).
In 1979, Klynveld Kraayenhof and Co, united with DTG and McLintock Main Lafrentz to form Klynveld Main Goerdeler (KMG).
In 1986, PMI converged with KMG. On January 1, 1987, the consolidation was reported to the general population and the new organization was named Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG).
Today, the organization of KPMG exists in 155 nations with more than 174,000 workers.
