It is conducted on the national level test and is considered to be a prestigious one. It was started by University Grants Commission (UGC). Originally it was conducted by CBSE but later on, the responsibility was passed on to the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice in a row.
Functioning:
The test is conducted every year twice for the post-graduation students, and it determines the candidate’s eligibility be granted with the prestigious fellowship program. It grants the selected student to have the opportunity to stand out and to further study in order to opt for degrees in research.
Instructions:
The tenure of JRF is fixed for two years, which means that within two years the selected candidate can apply for further studies. Apart from the opportunity to stand out, it also grants the selected students the stipend of INR 28,000 along they automatically become eligible for the position like Assistant Professor and even for a lectureship.
Eligibility criteria are either the candidate must have a master’s degree or have an equivalent of 55% of the marks to be able to sit in the examination. There is 5% of the reservation that works in accordance with the relaxation of marks.
The age limit is of 30 years, which is also relaxed for up to 5 years for the different categories.
Difference:
Almost being look alike, they share only one difference and that is that the cut-off for JRF is comparatively higher than NET. Plus the seats for JRF is less than NET.
