This test is an entrance test for aspiring students to be conducted on the national level every year. The candidates who compete against each other are judged for the twenty-two National Law Universities by the score of the test.
The twenty-two universities have private as well as self-funded colleges in the list. The test is conducted for the students who have passed the 12th standard examination and are aspiring to appear in the under-grad law schools as well for post-graduation courses, so by appearing in the test according to the scores the universities are allotted for the students.
The history goes way back to 1987, the year in which the first batch ever was admitted. According to the benchmark, the colleges are allotted to the students.
For grad school aspirants, the student must have the certification of passing from the high school from a recognized board as well as not less than 45% of the aggregate (40% for the SC and ST candidates).
For the post-graduation aspirants, the student must have a degree in Bachelor of Law from the recognized university with not less than 50% of the aggregate. As well, the mention of the backs in the report card will also nullify the student’s chance of sitting for the examination.
This law entrance exam is of two hours duration. The CLAT question paper consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. There are five sections in the CLAT exam paper which are:
