What is the full form of AFCAT?
AFCAT stands for "Air Force Common Admission Test".
This test is conducted for the purpose of selecting aspiring officers. It is conducted under the supervision of the Indian Air Force twice every year. The selected candidates after cracking the written test are proceeded to appear in the interview which is looked after by the Air Force Selection Board.
After the final selection, there are three respective branches that are offered to the selected candidates out of which they can choose according to their choice. Those branches are; Flying Branch, Technical Branch, and Ground Duty Branches. The choosing criteria differ from men to women. Though both of them can choose in accordance to their choice women are selected for short service commission while on the other hand, men are selected for short as well as for permanent service commission.
The AFCAT allows the candidates to practice for short service commission while after cracking the AFSB test allows the permanent place in the Air Force Academy.
For every branch, there is a different set of eligibility criteria. They are as follows:
- Flying Branch –Age should lay between 23 years at the time of course commencement. The candidate must be a Graduate (Minimum three-year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and have passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level OR BE / B Tech degree (Four-year course) from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.
- Technical Branch-The age must lay between 18 to 28 years at the time of course commencement. For details on education, candidates can refer to the advertisement.
- Ground Duty Branch-The age must lie between 20-23 years for Graduates, 20-25 years for Post Graduates, 20-26 years for LLB (Three-year course after graduation), and 20-27 years for M.Ed/Ph.D./CA/ICWA. For details on education qualification, you can refer to the official advertisement.
