Allegro MicroSystems Introduces First ASIL C Safety-Rated Magnetic Field Current Sensor for Electric Vehicle Powertrains

【Lansheng Technology Information】For today's and next-generation inverter and battery management system designs, engineers are faced with huge challenges and need to achieve higher safety goals according to the new Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) requirements.

To enable customers to meet these new safety requirements while improving system efficiency and extending battery life, Allegro has developed the ACS37601 programmable linear Hall-effect current sensor IC with over-current, over-temperature protection, and self-test functions. The ACS37601 design goal is to achieve high-precision and high-resolution sensing without compromising bandwidth. It is Allegro's highest-precision magnetic field current sensor and is suitable for applications where the measurement current is greater than 200A.

"Allegro's ACS37601 enables applications such as our BMS and electric vehicle traction inverter current sensors to meet the functional safety and accuracy requirements in the electric transportation industry," said Julio Urrea, Littelfuse vice president of business development. Littelfuses is a diversified industrial applications company Technology company serving the electronics, transportation and multiple industrial markets for a sustainable, connected and safer world.

ACS37601 can be used with C-core (C-core), is the first magnetic field current sensor to reach ASIL C level, can achieve 0.8% sensitivity error and less than 5mV offset error in the entire automotive temperature range, and the original device 30% lower than noise, ideal for battery management applications. The ACS37601 has a high operating bandwidth from DC to 240 kHz and a fast response time of 2 μs, enabling applications such as DC battery charging and high-frequency automotive inverters to achieve higher performance. The ACS37601 operates from a 5V or 3.3V power supply, enabling the use of state-of-the-art microprocessors without the need for additional components.

"Littelfuse has a history of excellence as an automotive supplier with global reach," said Shaun Milano, director of Allegro's current sensor business unit. "We are pleased to partner with Littelfuse to provide industry-leading field current sensor accuracy for electric vehicle powertrain applications." and security."

To help designers implement state-of-the-art ASIL-compliant battery management and inverter systems, samples of the ACS37601 are currently available in an extremely thin (1 mm thick), 4-pin single-insert in-line package (SIP), known as the KT package. KT packages are available with straight leads (suffix TN) and lead form options (suffix TH) to support surface mount assembly and have high resistance to mechanical vibration. The ACS37601 package is lead (Pb) free and features a 100% matte tin plated leadframe.
