What is Backup?
Backup is another copy of the data stored somewhere. If the original data is lost due to server crash or from any other reason with the help of backup, we can restore the data.
Why should we keep our backup?
Backup is the most essential requirement of every organization. As there might be a possibility that due to some issues, the organization lost the data. If this would help the organization to keep the replicated files of the data. Through this, data can be retrieved again.
Steps to create an on-demand Backup
- In the Google Cloud Console, go to cloud SQL Instances Page.
- Press the instance to open the overview page.
- Choose the Backups tab.
- Click on the Create Backups
- Add the description if required on the create backup pages and tab on click.
Steps to schedule automated backups
- In the Google Cloud Console, go to cloud SQL Instances Page.
- Press the instance to open the overview page.
- Choose the Backups tab.
- Tab on the manage automated backups
- Choose the timings for how long the backups need to be store and tab on Save.
Steps to organize the custom location for backups
By default, the custom location is multi-region location backups. If you want to change the location you can change it. To change the location, you need to enable automated backups.
- In the Google Cloud Console, go to cloud SQL Instances Page.
- Press the instance to open the overview page.
- Press on EDIT
- In configuration options, expand availability, recovery, and backups.
- Lengthen location options.
- Tab on the region.
- Choose the location from the drop-down menu.
- Click on the Save.
Steps to view the skipped backups
The gcloud command-line tool is used to view the skipped backups as the skipped backups are not visible in the history of backups.
- In the Google Cloud Console, go to cloud SQL Instances Page.
- Press the instance to open the overview page.
- To view the recent tab, click on the backups tab along with the time of creation and type of backup.
Steps to view the location backups
- In the Google Cloud Console, go to cloud SQL Instances Page.
- Press the instance to open the overview page.
- Choose the Backups tab.
- Choose the location in the backups list.
Steps to delete the backup
Both automated as well as on the demand backups can be deleted. When the backup is deleted, it will not free up the full size as it is of incremented size. So, might be some of the contents that are transferred to the new backup
- In the Google Cloud Console, go to cloud SQL Instances Page.
- Press the instance to open the overview page.
- Choose the Backups tab.
- Press on more action
- Click on the Delete
- Type delete on the delete backup Window and then just delete.
Steps to disable the automated backups
You can also disable the automated backups using the following steps
- In the Google Cloud Console, go to cloud SQL Instances Page.
- Press the instance to open the overview page.
- Choose the Backups tab.
- Tab on the manage automated backups.
- Uncheck the automated backups.
- Now, click on save and restart.
