This position is frequently uncertain and, as a consequence, unpredictable, as the majority of Top 1 levels only witness a small number of winners who can offer insight into the relative difficulty of their placement. Before the Demonlist was introduced, the history of Top 1 levels was primarily based on conjecture, and early Top 1 levels were frequently ranked retrospectively or as a result of disjointed community discussion.
In Geometry Dash, Top 1 is one of the most influential level types, if not the most influential. Levels such as Bloodbath and Sonic Wave have become emblematic of the game as a whole, and the construction and substantiation of Top 1s are documented and observed with great interest. They often spearhead advancement in the community. The Hell-themed and Silent genres of levels were influenced by levels such as Cataclysm and Silent Club, respectively. The community-made Insane and Extreme Demon terms for these levels inspired the inclusion of the ratings in Update 2.1. Continual new interest in current and forthcoming Top 1s is accompanied by a high level of popularity for levels that were previously Top 1.
This is a chronological list of levels that the Geometry Dash community has deemed to be the Top 1 based on collective opinions, which have been cross-checked with numerous community figures. These levels were subsequently ranked by Demonlist placement.[1]
In the event that a Top 1 level is placed below another former Top 1 level as a result of players' difficulty opinions, these levels are regarded as pseudo or fraudulent Top 1 levels, given the circumstances. The reign duration of a former Top 1 that was purportedly dethroned will be retroactively extended if they are still not Top 1 or if their reign merely persists. Nevertheless, this does not apply to levels that are not ranked as the top level but are ultimately determined to be more difficult than a former top level (e.g. Sonic Wave Infinity and Silent clubstep). This is frequently referred to as a "robbed" Top 1 by the community.
Although the majority of these levels are either unrated or deleted at present, a few have been re-verified, rated, and uploaded to the verifier's account. The default Demon rating (Hard Demon) will be used for Top 1 levels that are deleted or unrated prior to Update 2.1, as the subcategories of Demon ratings were present in the 2.1 Update. The current Top 1 is indicated in bold.

Folklore
1 The level was re-verified and published by a different uploader at a later time, and it is possible that it was rated after that.

4 The level was either enhanced or nerfed at a later date after it was published and occupied the top position.

6 The level was temporarily elevated to a Top 1 status due to a technicality. This could have occurred either because it was initially considered more difficult but was subsequently relegated, or because the former Top 1 was subsequently relegated. This may not have been represented as a genuine #1 placement on the Demonlist.
7 The notional version that Stormfly and the Restoration Union have constructed in the hopes of restoring the level is the version that is presently uploaded, as Element 111 Rg was purged and eternally lost in time.
Interesting Facts
At present, Element 111 Rg is the sole Top 1 that has not been defeated, as no known duplicates of the level exist. Nevertheless, paqoe verified a restored version of the level on April 11, 2024.
The sole Top 1 levels that are Epic-rated are Bloodlust and Digital Descent
Bloodbath is the first Top 1 to hold the title of the hardest level for more than a year, followed by Bloodlust, which held the title for 383 days. Tartarus, with a total of 527 days (418 consecutive days), and Acheron, with a total of 374 days, followed in that order.
Levels may become retrospectively Top 1 after modifications to the Demonlist propel them above the Top 1 when they were rated, but they remain below a newer level that transcends both.
Silent clubstep and Sonic Wave Infinity were elevated above their respective contemporary Top 1s, Slaughterhouse and Tartarus.
Trueffet and Hard Machine were also relocated above Tartarus; however, they were subsequently relocated back below.
Bass Cave was also elevated to the level that was considered Top 1 at the time of its release; however, this was the result of a buff-date that rendered the level more challenging. The version that was nerfed was determined to be too simple to be ranked in the top slot.
arcturus was rated and positioned in the same category as Firework and Slaughterhouse, both of which were anticipated to be in the Top 1. The '3 highest 1' are collectively referred to as such, despite the fact that arcturus was initially positioned below Tartarus.
Arcturus was subsequently elevated above Tartarus; however, it would not have been ranked as the top-rated item if it had been placed there initially, as it was rated concurrently with Firework and Slaughterhouse.
It was, however, the first of the three to be verified. Consequently, if it had been rated shortly after its verification, it would have been a retrospective top 1 if it had been placed below Tartarus, or a legitimate top 1 if it had been placed above.
At some point, Arctic Lights and Devil Vortex were inadvertently designated as the Demonlist's top-ranked levels; however, they were not considered the most difficult.
Avernus is presently the Top 1 level that took the longest to have its first victor, requiring over 8 months and surpassing Bloodbath's 7 months.
Cyclic's original version, Cyrillic's version that RobTop inadvertently rated, and Sunix's legitimately verified version, which is the current version rated, are the three versions of Sonic Wave that have been Top 1.
Two distinct versions of Tartarus have been ranked as the top version: Mullsy's version, which was rated after he became the first victor, and Dolphy's version, which was rated after his verification was proved legitimate.
