Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most completely defined and broadly used cloud platform adopted around the globe, offering over 175 fully-featured services globally from various data centers. History of AWS
- AWS was actually launched back in 2002, as a free service that used to allow companies to include Amazon.com features on their own websites. The early version was aimed at helping developers to build applications and tools that allow them to include some of the unique features of Amazon.com into their websites.
- In 2006, AWS began offering IT infrastructure services to businesses as Web Services which is now known as Cloud Computing. It was the same year when Simple Storage Device (S3) and Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) were also released.
- In the year 2012, AWS held its first customer event. This first major AWS developer conference was held in Las Vegas which highlighted its growing user community.
- In 2015, AWS revealed its financial results for the first time as it has been a mystery about the amount of money AWS actually made.
- In 2016, It surpassed $10 billion revenue target as promised by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at the starting of the year 2016. It also rolled out Snowball and Snowmobile.
- In 2017, AWS offered nearly 100 cloud services to the customers for computing, storing, database, analytics, networking, mobile, management tools, developer tools, IoT, security, and enterprise applications.
- In 2018, at re:invent AWS made a splash by announcing its first true hybrid cloud called AWS Outpost.
