Mention the steps that needs to be executed before implementing recovery testing | Software Testing

In this article, you will get to know which steps the user has to follow or perform before accomplishing the recovery testing. 

There are a few steps that need to be performed before executing the recovery testing process to make sure the performance of recovery testing:

1. Appropriate recovery analysis: Before performing the recovery testing, we have to make sure that proper analysis has taken place to verify the possibility of recovery. The recovery analysis is required for a better understanding of the recovery-related modifications, which might have an impact on the system performance.

         To fulfill the appropriate analysis, we have to look out the following aspects: 

• How to keep an eye on the failures. 
• The capability of the system to allocate additional resources such as servers in case of failure. 
• The effects of the failure, failure that might occur, and solution of the problem.

1. Preparation of the Test Plan: In this step, we will create the test plan according to the recovery analysis report. 
2. Preparation of Test Environment: Once we are ready with the test plan cases, we have to design the test environment as per the recovery analysis results. 
3. Keeping the Data back-up: After preparing the test cases and test environment, we can move to the next steps to keep the data back-up in a safe location. Similarly, if the data is significant, then we can keep the backup of the data depending upon the critically, with the help of the below points:

• Keep the data backup at one or in ‘n’ several locations. 
• Keep the single back-up or multiple back-ups. 
• Online and offline backups.
• Allocation of resources for recovery testing. 

1. Recovery Personnel Allocation: Once the backup of the data is done successfully, we will have appropriate knowledge for the recovery testing being conducted and allocate the recovery data. 
2. Documentation: In this last step, we have to document all the steps performed throughout the recovery testing process because, in case of any defect, the system gets tested for its performance.
