What is computer graphics? What are its various types?

Computer graphics:-

Computer graphics is a fields which deals with representation of graphics using computers. Computer graphics is one of the most effective and commonly used ways to communicate the processed information to the user. It displays the information in the form of graphics objects such as pictures, charts, graphics and diagram instead of simple text.

Classifications of applications of computer graphics are:

  • Data display or data presentation graphics.

  • Design and image graphics.

Data display graphics

This provide symbolic representation of numeric data. The data can be from scientific investigation, industrial monitoring and testing or management statistics. It has the common forms as bar charts, line graphs and pie charts etc. Such graphics are designed for human appeal and clarity.

Design graphics

Design graphics represent actual physical or geographical data. It include computer aided design (CAD). Computer aided manufacturing (CAM), image processing & mapping.

Origin of computer graphics

In 1950, the first computer display was used to generate simple picture by the use of cathode ray tube. The research began to bear fruit in the decade of 1970.



Types of Computer graphics:-

1. Non-interactive or passive computer graphics

2. Interactive computer graphics



1. Non-interactive or passive computer graphics:-

In non-interactive or passive computer graphics, the user is passive. The user does not have any control over the graphics imagery. This is a traditional kind of computer graphics. Examples are advertisement on TV, billboards, movies etc.



2. Interactive computer graphics:-

In interactive computer graphics user has some control over the picture like user make some changes in the image. The user can interact with it.

For example:- video game-the user can not only see the image of the game but can control it and alter it using joystick or keyboard.

Interactive computer graphics involve two way communication between the computer and the user. User can see the image and make any change by sending his/her command with any input device.
